Curriculum Vitae Engels

Jan Joling

Jan Joling was born on 28 September 1957. In 1978, he completed the Dutch Tax training programme for government auditors and joined the government's audit department (Rijksaccountantsdienst) in Alkmaar. In 1981, he moved to the fraud division of the Central Criminal Information Department (Centrale Recherche Informatiedienst, ‘CRI’). Working together with investigative and judicial authorities, he was involved in a number of widely publicised and large-scale fraud investigations. At CRI, he was also involved in policy consulting, management and providing training in investigative accounting. In 1984, based on his knowledge and experience, he was certified by the Amsterdam Court of Appeal as a permanent expert witness.

In 1986, Jan switched from the public to the private sector. He worked as an independent financial loss adjuster (property claims, business interruption claims and liability claims) for several loss adjustment agencies, including Cunningham Lindsey in Amsterdam.

In 2000, he became a partner at audit firm Deloitte, where he was mainly involved in auditing annual accounts and investigating fraud and integrity-related matters, disputes and damage claims.

He performed similar activities at 4i Trust, an independent forensic audit and investigation firm. Since 2007 Jan has been an independent expert, specialised in financial accounting and reporting law, investigations, financial matters, claims assessment and dispute resolution. He is an advisor to Nauta Dutilh, one of the big law firms in the Netherlands, in these area.
